Bro. Dunaway’s Message

(Written: from Jackson Miss.)

Dear Brethren-and Sisters: -

This is Sunday, March 8th. In my lesson today, I read these striking words: “The Lord is my helper, I will not fear what man shall do unto me”. The verse just before this quotation reads: “Let your conversation be without covetousness, and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee nor forsake thee, so, that we may boldly say: (then follows the above quotation) “the Lord is my helper etc.”

So it seems to me, if we want the Lord’s help we must not covet or even let our conversation be directed in that line. Contentment! Are we contented with such things as we have- or are we grasping for things we do not need- things which if we had might prove a hinderance rather than a blessing.

In the days that are ahead, we are going to need the Lord’s help. “It is not in man, says the Word, “to direct his own steps or ways” “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord”. “The eys of the Lord are upon the righteous and his ears are open unto their cry:. These are precious promises- They are true- Then, are we free from trouble? No! God’s people in all ages have had trouble- “Many are the afflictions of the righteous:; but the Lord delivereth them out of them all”.

We must have faith in what God has promised. “We must “look up” for our redemption in nigh. The Day of the Lord will come as thief in the night in the which the heavens (political) shall pass away with a great noise (Roar of guns- airplanes and bursting shells) and the elements shall melt with fervent heat (scorched earth) the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up”. This is a terrible picture! Yet how true is it today! As time goes on it will get worse. Are we down hearted at such a picture?

Thru the gloom, the star of Hope shines. “Seeing then that all these things- (This order of things) shall be dissolved what manner of persons aught ye (we) to be in all holy conversation and godliness. Looking for and hastening unto the coming day of God (The day He has appointed) wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless, we, (few in number) according to His promise, look for a new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness!

Are we really looking for such things, Brethren and Sisters? If so, Peter’s admonition to us is: “Be diligent, that ye may be found of Him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

Ye, therefore, beloved, seeing ye (we) know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own steadfastness. But grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ” To whom be glory and honor now and forever.

Yours In Hope

O. L. Dunaway.
